LITTLETON, Mass, November 3, 2023 – Mevion Medical Systems, the leading provider of compact single-room proton therapy systems, is pleased to announce it has been selected by BayCare to equip the St. Joseph’s Hospital Cancer Institute in Tampa with a MEVION S250-FIT Proton Therapy System™*.

The MEVION S250-FIT system will be installed in the Fred J. Woods Radiation Therapy Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital with a targeted opening in the fall of 2025. This implementation is a strategic advancement aimed at optimizing cancer treatment services throughout BayCare, including other accredited radiation oncology programs at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, and Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven.

The MEVION S250-FIT Proton Therapy System is thoughtfully designed to expedite proton therapy project timelines with a compact footprint, reduced construction requirements, and accelerated installation process. It represents a more cost-efficient solution, ensuring faster project deployment and broader accessibility to those patients who need it most.

The FIT system features industry-leading HYPERSCAN® Pencil Beam Scanning for Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT) with a proton MLC, and upright patient positioning with a large bore diagnostic CT from Leo Cancer Care for IGRT and adaptive therapy. FIT is also designed to support fast access to emerging technologies like ARC therapy, adaptive planning, dual-energy CT (DECT), and FLASH therapy.
